Some people say it’s pessimistic to create a bucket list, as if you are some how chancing fate and willing God to snatch you away sooner than He had planned by deciding to write down the things you would like to accomplish, see or experience before you die. I don’t believe that to be the case at all. I have a tonne of things I would like to do before I die and if the last few months have taught me anything, it is that life is too short to worry about what ifs. We may not like to think about it but the truth is none of us know when our last day may be and I’d like to make each day as precious in case there is no tomorrow. I may never accomplish everything on my Bucket List but I’m sure having it there in black and white (oh yes and of course, online) will mean I’m likely to achieve a hell of a lot more than if I left the ideas in my head.
I’ve broken down my list to a few things I would like to achieve in the next 12 months. Trust me my overall list is quite exhaustive and I’ve picked off some that I feel should be obtainable within 12 months! Hmm maybe I should do quarterly updates to let you know how I get on?
- Learn to use my new DSLR in more than the basic modes
- Buy a car – it’s no fun relying on lifts and spending a fortune on public transport!
- Take Princess somewhere amazing on holiday (Maybe Beijing for the Great Wall or Egypt for the Pyramids)
- Feel and look amazing in a bikini
- Teach Princess to read and write with confidence
- Interview someone I respect and admire
- Run a 10k this summer

I was dead against having resolutions this year as I get disheartened when I don’t manage to achieve them but your list and Kate Takes 5’s list have spurred me on. So this year I resolve to lose the 2 stone that crept on when I was pregnant with Peanut, get fit again, spend more time reading and commenting on my favourite blogs and meet up with the authors at Brit Mums Live this summer – and that includes you Mrs! Here’s to a fab 2013 x
Yay! You’ve just reminded me that I need to buy my Britmums ticket! It was lovely to bump into you last year!
I’m afraid I’m one of those wusses who doesn’t like a daily reminder of my mortality but I do write wishlists and five year plans and that sort of thing. Learning to work my DSLR is on my list for this year too!
I like the sound of a five year plan, but at the same time it scares me more than facing up to my mortality. Maybe it’s time for me to grow up and look forward long term?!
Lists like this are great for motivating us… good luck with yours, I look forward to reading about all your successes during 2013!
Can’t wait to read about yours too! Good work clearing out your fridge- mine still needs to be cleared!!
I might write one of these you know and start ticking it off!!! cause for real i aint getting any younger i know 27 is not mad old but i need to start doing stuff ive always wanted to do!!! winning some major amount of money would help lol
I agree, we’re not getting any younger, it’s time to make things happen!!
