What did you do with your last day of freedom before the return of school runs? After getting up uncharacteristically late, we had a chilled out breakfast and decided to spend the day in the Old Spitalfields Market. For one thing, the weather looked a little bit off and we didn’t want to risk getting wet – The Old Spitalfields Market is encased within a beautifully ornate roof so we could stroll at a relaxed pace without worrying about an impeding shower. Another reason we chose this particular market is because it’s one of my favourites and I don’t need much of an excuse to visit.
Luckily, my brother was in a good mood and wanted to go for a drive so volunteered to drop us down there. I took Princess and she in turn invited Daisy, the bunny, who seems to be following us just about everywhere at the moment, including on our recent trip to Covent Garden. We parked outside of the Worship Street Whistle Whistling Stop and walked down to Spitalfields, making mental notes of things to buy come pay day (for Ash, my brother) and come a serious weight loss miracle (for me ,like literally none of the gorgeous dresses were in my size!)
My favourite part of the outing was probably the amazing cupcakes at The Flavourtown Bakery stand. The flavour combinations were divine and it took me a while to decide on one. Princess on the other hand, zoned in on an amazingly rich brownie, cookie dough and melted chocolate trio and no amount of persuasion swayed her from her choice. The beautiful display brought us to the stand but it was the two guys serving that made it stick out for me. They were so pleasant, funny and approachable, we’ll be back for more cupcakes next week!
There were more than just dresses and cakes though. We saw amazing screen prints, hand made jewellery, leather bags, shoes, vinyls and much more. You could decorate your house with the contents of Old Spitalfields Market and not have to worry about your friends having the same table ornament or wall hanging as you. When we finally manage to move house, I’m definitely going to buy a lot of my stuff from here! The market was busy but not so crowded that I ever had to worry about Princess. The stall holders and the customers were all very child friendly and I’ve always found it a great market to bring kids to.

I love Spitafields! Prior to marriage I was based in the East End. I loved it up there and going to Spitafields always felt like a treat there is always coming going on. My last visit was not the best, though. It was after my trip their I had my asthma attack :0( I must visit again to counteract with new and happy memory.
I forget you were an East End woman! Such a shame about your last trip, totally agree that you need to come back so you have a nicer memory of it!
That’s one of my favourite places! I just love it.
Sadly I’ve never taken the children yet as I fear they would either get lost or want me to buy them everything.
lol I think you’re right about ending up buying everything! I spent over £40 on treats (mostly food!). I was surprised at how easy it was to keep an eye on my little one even though it seemed so crowded. Hopefully soon you’ll be able to take your brood down!
Looks like you had a lovely day!
I keep telling myself that I should visit the markets when I’m down in London but gosh, there is literally SO much to do in London! Waaah! I should really move down there, ha!

Hey Halima, thanks for stopping by! YES defo visit the markets when you next come to town! The great thing about Spitalfields is that it’s a quick walk to Brick Lane, Box Park and Petticoat Lane Market too so it’s a great day out!
