Thank you February! I don’t think I’ve ever been so glad to see January go as I have this year. I mean, there was no, ‘new year new me’ to be seen, though I did do something really grown up and list down my goals for the year ahead on an Excel sheet. But you know there’s that phrase about us making plans and God laughing? Yup, well that happened. Already, so much has gone pear shaped.
It doesn’t mean that the 2019 goals won’t be reached, but priorities may need to be changed! Cryptic or what? I 100% sound like those annoying people on Facebook who put up those statuses telling us nothing whilst taking up so much space, just so they can get people saying ” U OK Babe?” underneath them. I swear, you don’t need to ask me if I’m ok. Well, you can, but this isn’t one of those attention seeking posts. I just felt the need to say good riddance to January and wipe it off as getting the worst of the year out of the way, good and early!
Not even my birthday could salvage the month of January. The day went by with me spending the majority of it under the covers and waking up long enough to eat a takeaway, which cost far too much and which I had to drive two towns over to pick up myself. Because country living. Hardly anything edible is delivered out here! Sigh.
January was seriously bad on my mental health and I even ended up getting signed off of work. I thought it was just exhuastion and that perhaps I needed to have a day or two of good sleep and balanced eating but the GP thought otherwise. He was right though, a couple of days wouldn’t have made me right again.
There were some highlights to the month though. We had money left in the bank by payday! After Christmases past, we, like many others, have found ourselves dead broke in January. It was a major win to not have to live a frugal life of cooking whatever was left in the freezer in order to get by. Major grown up points for us. It may have taken me to reach my mid 30s to get there but finally, budgeting is starting to click.
My brother is getting married this year, in the Caribbean, my budgeting won’t allow us to save up fast enough to all go and watch him take his vows, BUT I’ve got some great ideas of gifts I’d like to get him and his family in place of my presence. Hopefully, I’ll be able to pull it all together in time.
February looks to be full of promise. I’ve got some interesting projects up my sleeve and have made it a priority of mine to carve out time on the weekends to see them into fruition. The most timely one being the conversion of my garage into a home gym! It’s about 3/4 clear of the junk that lived in it for the past 2 years. Boxes which we moved in there the day we moved home then never ever went back to.
It’s been weekend after weekend of trips to the local waste recycling centre and giving bits away. I can’t wait to have somewhere to swing my kettle bells in peace, or maybe simply put on some music and prance around without the kids giving me wary side eyes.
How was your January? Were you full of the joys of a New Year, or feeling blue like me? Do you have any plans big or small for the year ahead?
