It’s not often that we’re child free on a Friday night and able to spend time eating a meal together, just the two of us. This past Friday was one of those rare occasions, nearly as rare as the super moon we were lucky enough to witness earlier that same week. The two of us were in London and were treated to an epic Bodean’s BBQ feast in Muswell Hill, north London.

As it was such a rare event, and because I was excited about finding my favourite MAC lipstick after losing it for like a year (it was in one of my handbags, turns out I don’t look really well) I decided to throw on some lippy, comb my hair (yes, this is rare at the moment) and make a bit of an effort. Look, I even took a selfie to prove to myself that it’s possible to stop looking sickly in the midst of crazy bad morning sickness. Sorry about the bad picture quality y’all my iPhone is old as anything and the front facing camera sucks!

I’d worked up an appetite checking out their menu before hand which meant I already knew exactly what I wanted to order like a day in advance. Of course, morning sickness reared its ugly head within 2 minutes of sitting down making it impossible for me to have more than a couple of bites of the gorgeous buffalo wings and nachos we’d ordered but that was ok, the staff were super understanding and gave us containers to allow us to take the rest of it home.

We were still able to enjoy the experience, to talk about stuff that didn’t revolve around parenting, though we did have a quick argument over baby names! It was nice to just be two adults out on a date, remembering what makes us tick as a couple, not just why we’re awesome parents…

The hubby put in an epic attempt at demolishing the starters but he had to admit defeat, plus we wanted to make sure we had room for the Boss Hog Platter we’d foolishly ordered. I say foolishly not because it didn’t taste great, because OMG it tasted beautiful, everything was seasoned and well cooked, but foolishly because with me feeling pregnant-poorly it was only the poor hubster who would really get to enjoy it.

The meat Boss Hog Platter had a bit of everything and would easily have fed another one or two people, though it’s advertised as priced for two and you can pay more to add more people onto the platter. There was chicken thighs, sausage, burnt ends, beef ribs, pork ribs and pulled pork. Like meat lover’s heaven! We worked our way through as much of it as we could but in all honesty, ended up taking most of it home and enjoying it for lunch the following day, not bad really, it was nice snuggling up on the sofa with a plate of left overs and some hot sauce!

Crazy as it seems, we still ordered dessert. Funny how your body works, we’d both had enough of meat but had room for some sweetness, so had an apple cobbler and brownie between us. Honestly, I think I could go back just for the cobbler, so cinnamony and just the right level of sweetness. Soooo good!

All in all, it was a very successful date night and Bodean’s BBQ was a hit for the both of us. It’ll probably be reserved for adult meals as Princess isn’t very keen on meat, meaning this venue will be lost on her! I can’t wait to come back post baby and breastfeeding as the cocktails looked divine and although the virgin version I tried was really tasty, my goodness I was jealous that I wasn’t able to have the real thing!

Would we go back? Most definitely! I’d also point out that there were loads of people in there with young children and it seemed very family friendly. I wouldn’t take mine, purely because she doesn’t eat meat, but otherwise I think it would be a great place to dine out with all ages.

Thank you Bodeans for a lovely meal and for making date night happen x
