This braided pony tails look is a favourite in our household because it’s so quick and easy. It’s a school term favourite because it’s a low maintenance kid’s hairstyle and looks cute. Another favourite in our afro hairstyles repertoire is the braided crown as it’s really quick to plait but looks quite impressive.

With swimming at least once per week and a child who is generally very active, I love styles that don’t take too long. That way, I don’t feel bad if they only last a week before I need to wash it. That’s not to say the plaits have become messy, I plait quite tight! It’s more that she’s swam in the chlorinated swimming pool water and taken off her swimming cap. Or that she’s been playing in the school meadow and accumulated a small forest in her hair.
We sometimes add beads to the ends of the plaits for a fun addition of colour. Beads are such a lovely way to accessorise kids afro hairstyles and doesn’t take too long to install. On this occasion, we left out the beads but I’ll be sure to put up a tutorial on how to install them, the next time we use beads in a hairstyle.
We love protective hairstyles, particularly during term time. Easy and quick cornrow styles are even better because with three heads of hair to take care of, time is a big deciding factor when choosing styles.

Creating the look

To create this protective style, I sectioned her hair into two from ear to ear. I then put hair into two loose pony tails. The partings for the individual cornrows followed the natural grain of the hair into the ribbons. I find this method helps me keep track on the direction of the plaits and at the same time, stops the hair from getting knotty before getting plait.

this is so cute, i will definitely try this for my baby! thanks for sharing!
