Turmeric facemasks have been used for millennia. Of course, I’ve only known about them in the past year and only recently started using them myself. As someone who suffers from hyperpigmentation, I was keen to try out a week of daily turmeric facemasks to clear hyperpigmentation and even out my skin.
Hyperpigmentation is a common skin problem where increased melanin is produced, creating dark skin patches. I have suffered from it for years, but it’s become increasingly worse from my mid-twenties onwards. My hyperpigmentation is on my face, making me incredibly self-conscious. Any acne or spot flare-up results in a new round of dark patches, mostly on my jawline and cheeks. Like many, sunshine seems to make it worse.
Having watched on tonne of Youtube videos hailing the astonishing results of using turmeric facemasks, I decided to give it a go. Boasting anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities, it’s been known to be great at calming down hyperpigmentation, acne and brightening the skin.
Whilst I’ve not had miracle results personally, there’s definitely been an improvement in the clarity on my face. My dark spots on my face aren’t as prominent but they haven’t disappeared either. Being a homemade mask, I like that it’s something I can mix up in less than a minute and create some time for looking after my skin.
I’ll continue using the turmeric masks at least once per week, to see if it completely clears up my dark spots caused by hyperpigmentation. I love the way it makes my face feel, fresh, tight and clear.
How to make Turmeric Facemasks
1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon yoghurt
Mix together and spread on affected areas. Leave on for 30 minutes, by which time the mask will have become dry.
If this is your first time, PLEASE DO A PATCH TEST! Always test for allergic reactions when using something on your skin.
It may tingle when you’re using it. It did for me, and the videos I watched on YouTube had users also say they experienced tingling.
If you use the turmeric face mask, let me know if it helped clear your skin, I’d love to know.
