new nuk nature sense bottle review baby bottle feeding breastmilk on circusmums.com

Three months into the parenting journey and we’re slowly getting the hang of things. I’ve begun to express my milk more often in the hope of making a smooth transition into returning to work. I’m hoping to express for use during the day and breast feed Baby Bob myself in the mornings before work and during night feeds. I’m hoping to continue giving breast milk and using cloth nappies all the way through Bob’s nursery journey. We were already using NUK First Choice baby bottles and were sent the new NUK Nature Sense bottles to try out.

The teats on the NUK Nature Sense bottles are described as being more flexible and several tiny openings at the nipple in order to mirror the breastfeeding experience. It also has an extra wide teat rest which is said to help babies latch on in a more natural way. I was buoyed by the information on the website, which suggested that 92% of babies accepted the bottle. I decided I’d try it out the next time I was out and about. Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long and it ended up being a weekend at my parents.

We received a starter pack .  The pack contained:

  • 1 x NUK Nature Sense 150ml Bottle with silicone 0-6m Small Teat for breast milk
  • 1 x NUK Nature Sense 260ml Bottle with silicone 6-18m Medium Teat for breast milk and formula
  • 1 x NUK Genius Silicone Soother 0-6m, right for the jaw, with anatomically-shaped mouth shield, particularly soft and flexible
  • 1 x Transparent NUK Soother Cover

The bottles in the Nature Sense range are wider than the First Choice bottles and I prefer the the feel. I noticed that whilst I can usually get bottles to fit directly onto my current breast pump, I can’t with the Nature Sense bottles due to their larger circumference. Not the biggest problem though and I’m sure I can buy an adapter if I wanted.

Baby Bob being fed with NUK Nature Sense wide fit bottles

My gorgeous baby girl found it really easy to latch on to the bottle, once she’d got over the initial confusion of being fed by someone else! I asked my mum to feed her when we visited. She drank about 125ml in one sitting easily with it being her first time using the NUK Nature Sense bottle. I’d been concerned that the multiple holes in the teat would lead to the flow being too fast. Turns out my fears were unfounded and Baby Bob drank with no problems.

The NUK Genius soother wasn’t as much of a hit. Baby Bob seemed to find it hard to keep it in her mouth. I think it was too small for her, having used a different model before. She looked pretty content when she used it though!

I had a couple of mums on Instagram ask me which bottles I use when I express. I’d told them about the NUK range and how we’d started on the First Choice and were looking forward to trying out the Nature Sense. I think it’s hard as each child is different, but on a personal level, I can confidently recommend  both types of NUK bottles. The Nature Sense did seem to be easier for my baby to accept but that could be that she’d become more used to drinking my breastmilk from a bottle period. Or it could be down to the wider shape and multiple holes of the Nature Sense. We’ll continue using both!

Have you tried the NUK Nature Sense range or any other NUK products? What were your thoughts?
