I love having a new baby but one thing they aren’t known for is for giving their parents free time. Time is so short and I’m lucky if I remember to wash my hair. Princess is good at reminded me to sort her hair out. Even then, I may find time to wash it and then have to wait until the next day to plait it depending on how the baby has been and how exhausted I am! That’s why when the Mini Me asked for a pony tail with extensions in it this time, I said yes.

I’ve never let her have extensions before. It’s probably just me, but I feel that she’s too little. I’ve seen little girls as small as 3 or 4 wearing their hair with extensions in their hair. I get it, it’s a protective style and it means you don’t have to fuss in your child’s hair too often. But that said, it’s never been for me. But Princess is turning 9 years old in a couple of weeks and knows her own mind. It’s something she’s been asking for for at least the last three years so I feel ok that I’ve held out so long.

I went for a braided pony tail because I feel it isn’t a grown up look. It still leaves her looking like a child. I’d love to say that I did this but nope. I drove down to London and had a lovely lady pop down to my parent’s home to plait Princess’ hair. It’s brilliant! I had my parents doting over the smallest whilst the eldest was getting her hair done. I was able to sneak in a quick trip to the shops to pick up okras, scotch bonnet peppers and some other things I’d been craving but can’t get anywhere near our village.

During

The plaiting only took a couple of hours. Princess was great and sat still throughout. The hairdresser was lovely and very chatty. I know you’re probably thinking ‘but aren’t they all?’ but no! Sometimes it feels so forced, whereas I felt like Tiffany actually wanted to hear the answers to her questions and didn’t mind answering the randomness I asked her either.

Just look at how chilled Princess looks in the photo below. No stressing, no pulling, no crying. I thought getting her hair in extensions for the first time would seem painful for her as it normally pulls tighter than when you’re just getting your own hair plait but she was so chill.

The plaits weren’t too tight and don’t pull. It was my one concern with having it cornrowed. I remember how I would sometimes be left with an instant facelift and the need to swallow a couple of paracetamols after having my hair done! Tiffany did an amazing job and I’m looking forward to getting Princess’ hair done again in a few weeks.
