I don’t write about gardening on this blog normally. It’s because, to be brutally honest, I’m a bit of a crap gardener. I come from a family of green fingered avid gardeners. My grandparents used to grow everything from sweetcorn to lettuce in their back gardens. My mum’s garden looks like a tropical oasis in the middle of North London, then you have me, Tinuke, the woman who mowed grass for the first time this year! That being said, something has come over me this year.
I’ve been actively trying to turn my own garden into a mini oasis. I think it’s part of my year of adulting. Learning about plants, soil types, ways to attract widlife into the garden etc. When VonHaus offered me the opportunity to review a cordless Hedge Trimmer I jumped at the chance. It would be yet another excuse to go outside and tackle my back garden.

We have ivy covering most of the back of the house and gorgeous grape vines across the front. We actually ended up cutting and peeling off a tonne of the ivy as it was taking over. I planned to use the cordless hedge trimmer from VonHaus to cut the hedges bordering our fences from the neighbouring gardens. Of course, it’s been nothing but rain so I didn’t have much of a chance to get out. By the time I did, the neighbours had beat me to it and they didn’t need cutting!
It’s probably the complete wrong time of the year to do it, but I gave the front of the house a little tidy up, just so I could put the hedge trimmer through its paces. It would be wrong to review a product I’d not used, after all. Sorry grape vines!

The extendable hedge trimmer from VonHaus is actually super lightweight. I found the look of it a bit daunting, as I said, I’m a gardening novice. But it was actually super easy to assemble and operate. It’s also not particularly loud, which is good as I didn’t want to freak out our puppy or the toddler, who were both cautiously watching my antics through the glass.
The blade can be rotates across a -45 – 90° spectrum for precise horizontal and vertical cutting. That makes it easy to produce sharp, square hedges. I can’t wait for the tops of ours to grow back so I can give that a try.

As I mentioned, this is a cordless unit. It’s powered by a 20v battery which comes with the hedge trimmer and was super easy to fit. The charge takes an hour and provides you with around 50 minutes of uninterrupted hedge trimming time. That should be long enough to create the most perfect of hedges, right?

The pole extends to 2.4 meters. This should allow you to reach even the tallest hedges, or in my case, vines and ivy.
