It is 16:39 on a Tuesday afternoon and whilst a month ago this would have been the time of day for me to start winding down, pushing my note pad away and counting down the moments before I can turn off the PC, descend the sky high building I work in and start the 90min journey home via the child minder.
Today I am sat in a Costa coffee shop, ten minutes from the child minder drinking a massive mocha and planning the many business calls I need to make between now and midnight. I’m also strategising ways to keep Princess busy enough not to get in a strop about me disappearing into a quiet corner to make these calls. It is my quiet 20 minutes of pure unadulterated bliss, away from work, home, children or emails. My quiet time I so craved when working in the office environment. I love to work and to be kept busy but sometimes it is lovely to have a moment to unwind, recharge and recap.
My new job has been a blessing in so many ways, I work with a team of talented, quirky and absolutely inspiring women (and a man, hey D!) who work damned hard and remind me somewhat of the cast of the ABC hit Scandal. Nope none of us are sleeping with the President of the United States but we are all fixers, willing to dig deep and lend our skills wherever they are required to make things happen and to get the wheels of entreprenurship turning. We are Gladiators. Just like in Scandal, Gladiators do not sleep!
Yes I get an extra hour in bed in the mornings now I no longer work in the Wharf, but I also spend a lot more time exercising my brain matter, dealing with a world of ‘firsts’ which is absolutely amazing and also exhausting, but in a really good way. Which is why at 16:39 I am planning what is sure to be another busy, interesting and evening filled of emails, phone calls and working that brain matter. Right now though, at the coffee table, with my iPad and mocha, I am thoroughly enjoying the calm before the storm.
