Mean Girls. A barge. Champagne? Yes please! I mean who could say no to that kind of invitation? When Currys PC world invited me and a group of bloggers to a private screening aboard the Floating Cinema I couldn’t RSVP fast enough. I’d never been on a barge before and was so excited to have the opportunity to travel along London’s canal ways actually on the water as opposed to along the paths. It was also a perfect excuse to visit Granary Square once again as it’s fast becoming one of my favourite London haunts. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of end result of a clay workshop which had been on the green steps of the square, by the water. I wish I’d known it was going on, I’d have come down early just to take part!

The barge was wonderful and the crew were so friendly and knowledgeable. Halfway through the film, I snuck out for some quiet time with my champagne and to learn more about the Floating Cinema Project. It will be making its way through London for the next month hosting extraterrestrial themed screenings and workshops. Prices range from free to £12. Good hey? There’s a screening of Flash Gordon that I’m planning on going to towards the end of September and also a Comiccon, so if you’re up for it, let me know as it would be nice to see others there!
We watched our film in the white room you can see in the photo below but the Floating Cinema also has an outdoor screen (hence the scaffolding poles) which can be erected on top of the barge and then projected onto from the opposite side of the canal. Outdoor screenings are free so you can chill out on the Granary Square steps with a blanket and a picnic whilst watching a classic film.

It was amazing to see how crystal clear the projector was, I didn’t think the bright pink black out curtains would get the barge room dark enough but they did their job. I’ve worked with projectors before when I taught English and would let my students watch episodes of Mr Bean as well as my favourite film Shawshank Redemption, (for educational purposes of course) but this projector was sharper. I’m not sure which one Currys PC World used but I’d love to have it for myself. Who needs a television when you can have a blank wall and a projector? Instant cinema in your own bedroom or living room. I’d choose my bedroom because it’s so cosy and I wouldn’t have to leave the bed once the film finished! Ultimate lazy Sunday experience no?
It was lovely to meet Reena from Fashion Daydreams at the Currys Movie Night because although I count her as one of my closest friends it was our first event together although having known each other very well for over a decade. She’s playing shy in this picture but don’t believe it! I also got to catch up with Haydy from @JoesBloggers again which is lovely as she’s such a fabulous person and she introduced me to her Polaroid Cube which I now NEED in my life! All in all, a fantastic way to spend a Sunday evening.

Haydy’s cube is a thing of beauty!
Looks like you had a great time! 😉
Her cube rocks! I’m definitely investing in one very soon!
