Easter daffodils in full bloom

Five weeks to go until the new baby arrives and I’m feel well and truly exhausted. If there was any way of having a short staycation somewhere not too much of a drive from the hospital (because you know, babies don’t always come when they’re told!) I would so book it! As it stands I have three weeks left at work, two of which cover the half term Easter break.

Princess is going to spend that time away at both sets of Grandparents, possibly spending the weekends in between with me because otherwise I’ll miss her too much. But at least for the weekdays, after I get home from work, I’ll get to use the Easter holidays to recharge.

I probably could have taken some time off to spend with her over the half term break, but knowing that 1) the lady covering my maternity cover would have just started and would need to shadow me and 2) I’d be off on maternity leave the week after half term, I decided to save what holiday I have left and store it for the end of maternity leave in case I want to ease myself into work a little bit slower.

I’m hoping that it will work out – missy will have so much fun with her extended family that she won’t be too put out not seeing me, plus not having the guilt around missing bed time will mean I can be stress free when it comes to getting home from work, even if I put in some longer days in order to feel like I’ve covered everything possible before I leave.

What I’m really looking forward to doing over the Easter Break

Having a date night with the hubby

He doesn’t know about this yet, I should probably let him in on it sometime soon. But it’s on my pre-baby bucket list. It would be great to spend some quality time as two adults, sans children, if even just for an evening. Princess is my life and I love ‘Bob the bump’ so much before even meeting him/ her. It’s also important to me to have some time to connect with The King. I think our last proper date night was in November / December (could it be that long really!?) when we went to Bodeans. We’ve been out loads since then but not just the two of us. bodean's bbq menu

Treating Princess to The Boss Baby at the cinema

We watched the trailer for Dreamworks’ The Boss Baby last half term when we went to watch the Batman LEGO movie. We were in stitches! I’ve.. ahem, we’ve been patiently waiting for it to be released ever since! Check out the trailer, it looks like such a good laugh. There’s something ‘Looks who’s talking’ about this film. Please tell me you remember that film and I’m not just showing my age here?

Meeting up with friends

This is also on my bucket list. I’m not sure how likely this is to happen. My PGP (pelvic girdle pain) is flaring up so much the last few days. Even walking to and from the train station for work is tear inducing. I’ve taken to sleeping on the sofa most nights because although it does nothing for my back, it keeps my pelvis from aching and is actually the most comfortable position for me.

PGP or not, I really want to meet up with some of my friends over the Easter break! Because the majority of them are based in London and I work in the capital it’s easy. Plus, once the baby comes, who knows how long I’ll be stuck in the Shires for and if they’ll be able to make the journey up to me.

Setting up my Snuzpod

Whooop! This will probably deserve a post all of it’s own at some point, as will the other headings above. I’m so excited that my mum has bought me a Snuzpod. I’ve been deliberating for months over whether to buy one or not. In the end, I just asked my mum if she wanted to get it for me as she was after something to buy as a gift. She’d also drilled me the previous weekend about my lack of a moses basket, bouncer or anything else for the baby to relax in, so this seemed like a great option as the Snuzpod can be used as a moses basket and a bedside crib. I can’t wait to put the crib together and have it all ready for when Bob makes his/her appearance.

Slow lived weekends

With the exception of the cinema trip to watch Boss Baby, the weekends are going to be slow, relaxed affairs. I’m thinking baking, (short) country walks through the nearby fields and some painting in the sun trap that is our back garden. It’s going to be lovely not having to worry about whether homework has been completed or PE kits packed. Just being able to chill out and spend lots of one to one time with my Mini Me, in what will be our very last Easter holiday as a family of three.

My half term plans for this Easter aren’t too packed. At 35 weeks pregnant I have to finally succumb to the reality that it’s time for me to slow down and take things a bit easier. The stabbing pain in my pelvic region and the stubborn stretching of the baby trying to give itself more room are less subtle signs to get my attention too. Even so, I’m really looking forward to the holidays. To the warmer days, lighter evenings and general happiness this season brings out in everyone around here.

What are your plans for the Easter holidays? Going abroad? Stay-cationing? Growing a baby too?!
