I’ve loved writing since I was able to spell my name. OK slight exaggeration, but the point is, I’ve always enjoyed putting pen to paper, or more recently, fingers to the keyboard. That’s one of the reasons why blogging is so dear to me and why I choose to blog alongside my full time job. It’s probably what I get the most comments about from friends. They wonder how I find the time to write at all when I work full time, have a daughter to look after and regular household crap to stay on top of.
Granted, I blog sporadically and my blog has suffered because of this. I have some fabulous loyal readers, and others who pop in and out over the years through social media links and the like. I appreciate them all.
For a blog that’s been running for as long as mine, I could do better. I could have bigger reach. Larger stats. More opportunities. But I honestly haven’t been able to write as often as I’d like. Putting out one or more posts a day is a pipe dream that I’d love to make a reality. Being able to read more of other blogger’s work definitely is another. I’d love to be a more supportive, active member of what is an amazing community of freethinkers.

How often should I post to the blog?
I post a blog whenever I find the time to do it. For me, it’s a passion and a brilliant way to share with others. It’s not a business (maybe one day though, who knows) and I don’t rely on it to pay bills. My full time day job does that.
Depending on where you read, you’ll be told anything from blogging every day to a minimum of three posts per week. Personally, I think it depends on a bunch of factors:
- How much time do you have?
- What is your aim?
- Are you blogging to raise awareness to your business / product?
- Is it a way of casually documenting your life for family and friends?
These things should help you determine how important the frequency of your postings are. I would love to blog at least four times per week. Hopefully it’s something I’ll achieve as I become more organised.

How do I find the time to blog?
You will find the time to do something if you really want to do it. If you don’t you’ll find a thousand excuses. It’s that simple. I sometimes write posts on the commute, using my phone or laptop depending on how much space I have on the train! I also use the time in the mornings on a Sunday when the rest of the house is asleep or late at night when the little one is tucked up in bed and I’m aimlessly half paying attention to an episode of NCIS that I know I’ve seen before.
So you can blog with a full time job?
Short answer? Totally. You can blog and work full time, many people do. If you’re passionate about something you can and will find a way to do it. Blogging brings about so many positives, particularly if you don’t get wrapped up in the stats and other stresses. You build friendships and connections with people who span the world. You get to read about experiences and opinions which differ greatly from your own. It’s a creative outlet from your 9-5. I could go on. Perhaps I will in another post! It’s all about knowing what you want.
