BIG HERO 6
Want to know one of the best things I get out of being a blogger, apart from meeting some amazing life long pals? It’s got to be the opportunity to watch a tonne of amazing children’s films before they are released in the cinemas to the general public. We get to spread the word about what great films to watch with your family during the half term or school holidays and more importantly, which films to avoid like the plague and wait until a rainy day indoors to watch when it arrives on SKY.

We were lucky enough to attend the UK Gala screening of Big Hero 6. Now you’ve probably already seen the trailer for this, as it’s been showing for months, but just in case you didn’t, I’ve included it for you in this post. Totally worth a watch.

The film is based in San Fransokyo, which is a perfect marriage of two places that should really become one, as this animated motion picture so clearly makes the case for. Trams travelling down hilly streets lined with delicate pink cherry blossom trees? Awesome. Anyway, the film centres around a teenaged boy named Hiro who is blessed with a brilliant mind and a gift for robotics, who tries to avenge the death of his brother Tadashi, with the help of Baymax, the robot created by his deceased brother. Mmmm hmm, it’s a little bit dark in places and Princess looked slightly wary of some of the mild peril towards the middle of the film, but she’s aged six and I think it was ok for kids of her age. Baymax and Hiro are joined on their quest for capturing the killer of Tadashi by Tadashi’s college (uni) friends, a street wise adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, slightly OCD Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy dude Fred.

Disney have cracked the roller coaster ride of emotions, with enough drama, comedy, action and suspense to keep everyone happy. It’s like watching Disney’s Frozen but they’ve swapped Scandi dresses and snow for robots and rich surfer dudes. Like Frozen, the siblings are orphaned, but whilst the princesses are raised by their royal staff, the lads in Big Hero 6 are raised by their aunt Cass, who is cool, runs a café and is known for her legendary face numbing chicken wings.

It’s worth a watch. In fact, here are 7 reasons for you to watch Big Hero 6.

1) The magical blend of San Francisco and Tokyo is superb
2) Baymax bumping fists will give you life
3) It’s a great introduction to why science and robotic rocks
4) It contains a fire breathing dragon
5) It breaks many racial and social stereotypes
6) It’s not your average animated movie
7) You may have just found something to replace Frozen in your kid’s hearts

I’ve included the recipe for Aunt Cass’ wings and also a nice spot the difference puzzle to keep the kids busy whilst you make the wings! Don’t thank me.. well actually, I don’t mind if you do!
