binge worthy shows on netflix including the amazing seven seconds as recommended by uk blogger circusmums

I think one of the greatest things about having a child this time round, compared to in 2008 and when my first daughter was born, has to be Netflix. That sounds wrong, I know. But now, if I’m suffering from Insomnia at 2am because I can’t fall asleep after a night feed, or I’m stuck underneath a napping baby in the middle of the day, I can at least binge watch a show for an hour or two. There are so many binge worth Netflix shows out there too, so the choices seem endless.

I’ve had Netflix for so many years, I’m not sure why I haven’t shared my favourite programs before. You might not have this problem, but sometimes the cover images Netflix chooses to advertised their films and series’ puts me off watching them and it takes me months to finally give the title a try. That was definitely the case with say, The Good Place, which actually wasn’t what I’d have thought it would be about, going by the cover alone. Perhaps, my list of binge worthy Netflix shows will help you find a series you wouldn’t have thought to watch otherwise?!

Seven Seconds

My loctitian recommended this to me on a Wednesday. I started watching it the following day and was heart broken when I’d watched the entire season by Sunday. I really tried to spread it out.
Released on 23rd February 2018, Seven Seconds was created by Veena Snud and stars Regina King and Clare-Hope Ashitey. It tells the story of a family rocked by the death of their black, teenaged son after a hit and run accident. The story is gritty, raw and at times, the racial tensions made me uncomfortable but in a way that you should own not back away from. There were a couple of moments where I had to stop and process what I’d watched, but it’s definitely worth watching until the very end.

The Good Place

The cover put me off watching this for ages, but I’m so glad I ended up clicking on the title image during a moment of severe boredom. The Good place is about a woman who finds herself in heaven and soon realises she wasn’t meant to be there. Comedic panic ensues as she tries very hard to not be discovered whilst earning her place in ‘the good place’. Starring Kristen Bell and Jameela Jamil, this is into its second season, the first having come out on Netflix in 2016 but not to International audiences at that point. This is a very light hearted show which is good for when you want something that wont tax your brain or emotions.

Coach Snoop

This is a side to Snoop I’d not seen before. A documentary style series following a group of under privileged boys as they play in Snoop’s youth football league. Not always politically correct and unapologetic for it, Snoop and his team of coaches work hard to keep their group of boys out of trouble whilst teaching them to excel in a sport which may one day see them playing professionally or getting them to college. Some of the boy’s stories are heartbreaking. There’s loads of swearing. Actually, I think that may be true of all this list. Totally worth a watch.

Rita

This Danish (English subtitles) comedy drama series stars award winning actress Mille Dinesen. Four seasons in, there is a lot to binge watch but it is worth it. Rita is a strong, emotionally troubled, teacher. In many ways, it feels like your watching the female version of Doctor House. There is a good mixture of comedy and real world, serious issues in here. It’s also a good insight into social issues within Denmark, which as a Londoner, I found myself previously ignorant of. Rita’s heart is in the right place but her methods are less than perfect. There are times when you feel like a fly on the wall about to watch her emotionally car crash. Then the next moment, it’s all feel good and all’s right with the world.

I’ve got loads more binge worthy Netflix shows that I can share but I think I’ll leave some for a second instalment. Give you a chance to watch these ones first. How long do you need? A week? wink.
