Some people work to live, others live to work. I started thinking about what category I fell into, about whether what I did was a means to an end or something that I was passionate about and filled me with enthusiasm.
Posing the question on Twitter, “would you you willing to take a considerable pay cut if it meant doing a job you’d be passionate about” I was met with a unanimous YES. It seemed that people would prefer to be in a role that they loved and would be willing to economise in order to do that. Some Tweeters had already done just that, leaving high paid careers in order to follow their hearts, be it becoming a stay at home mum in order to spend more time with their families, raising their children or starting in a new profession that allowed them to jump out of bed in the morning’s looking forwards to getting to their jobs.
For some, the wisdom of getting older rewrote what was important to them. Others sited changes in personal circumstances. For all who answered either by a Direct Message or open Tweet the answer was the same, they would rather have less money but enjoy their day than to count the days down until they had a chance to go on a holiday and get away from their jobs!
For many of us, a large amount of our days are spent working. Do you love the role you are in or is it just a way of making money so you can enjoy the time you are away from work!? Feel free to respond anonymously on the comment form for this one!!
