It’s The King’s birthday very soon. It’s exciting for two reasons, firstly it’s the birthday of the man I love which means I get to spoil him and make a fuss and it’s also the second year anniversary of when the beautiful Reena talked to me about becoming a ‘mummy blogger’. It didn’t go very well and I gave up after a couple of posts, but the point is if she hadn’t talked to me about it at The King’s birthday party I’d never have been introduced into the word of blogging, which over the last 18 months or so has showered me with so many positive experiences and opportunities.
I’ve been known to splash out on the latest games consoles or concert tickets for Birthday and Christmas gifts in the past. It seems the older I get, the less disposable income I have so the gifts have scaled down. The King wants an iPad and asked everyone to give him vouchers towards it, which is simple enough but vouchers don’t seem much of a gift which means either buying him the iPad outright or getting him vouchers and another super cool gift on top of it… hmm both of these options seem expensive for someone with so little in the bank!
Some people are naturally giving, it’s not about how much money the gift costs, but rather about getting something that will make the recipients’ face light up with joy and surprise. I don’t put a price limit on gifts, especially for my loved ones, but how much really is too much to spend? I was looking at Silverstone / Mercedes driving experiences but a day pass and hotels.. it’s like half the month’s rent! That’s a lot seeing as we live in London and rent is out of this world expensive.
We’ve all seen the lavish gifts celebrities have showered on their loved ones. It may seem extortionate but isn’t it all relative? A 50ft yacht from a multi-millionaire to their spouse is simply the same as someone on a moderate salary buying their loved one a batch of sailing lessons right?
The King used to be rubbish at gifts but the last few years he’s surprised me by just how well thought out and meaningful his presents to me and Princess have been. I need to find something as personal and wonderful for him, without breaking the bank! Princess said we should buy him a bike, but seeing at how much use the badminton racquets have seen in the last year, I’m not so sure. I’ve only got a couple of weeks to think about this, even less if I’m going for something that needs to be ordered and shipped!
I’m thinking a personalised leather cover for his iPad and maybe a matching wallet? We’re also going to dinner at Kenza with some close friends so I know he’ll have a good evening. All suggestions would be appreciated!
