A little while back, I attended a Bloggers conference in London. It was exciting because it was the first time I’d get to see some of the fab bloggers I had been talking to via the blog and Twitter. With that in mind, I booked a table for five people at The Drunken Monkey in Hoxton. As you know, I’ve been there a couple of times in the past and love the food and their amazing cocktails!
Well, turns out myself and Kate, my fellow Blogger-in-Crime, are more sociable than we gave ourselves credit for because by the end of the day, we’d managed to up the number of guests to 15!! Eeek! I sheepishly called up the bar twenty minutes before we were due to arrive and the staff were so accommodating. We were given a bigger table and no fuss was made over our last minute changes. The lady if spoke to on the phone was the same who showed us to our tables and instantly remembered who I was which was a lovely touch, nothing worse than trying to explain yourself in a crowded bar!
As always the food was fantastic and a treat to my taste buds! We chose to have a mixture of the set menu with some extra dishes from the usual a la carte. There was more than enough to go around and a great range of dishes to take a pick from. The pork buns were a hit, as was the special fried rice, chicken dumplings and shredded duck with pancakes. The Drunken Monkey do amazing dim sum for both lunch and dinner. They also have live DJs in the evenings and a very lively (yet super pleasant) night scene.
The Happy Hour at Drunken Monkey is very popular, with many staying on well into the night to party on after a long work week. We had a bottle of prosecco and a few jugs of mojitos all of which went down a storm with a group of female bloggers, free from their responsibilities and ‘mummy’ tags for the weekend! If you’re in the Hoxton / Shoreditch / Liverpool Street area, you should give this place a try! The staff are lovely, the patrons are cool, trendy and friendly too! I’ve always had a great night here and what’s great is it’s close to tube and overground as well as a myriad of night buses if you stay too late!!
The seated area can get congested fast so if you’re planning on sitting down for a meal it’s probably worth calling in advance to book a table if you’re planning on going on a Friday or Saturday evening!
