Baking Bread At Home!

We made bread! Actual. Real. Tasty.Bread.

I was surfing Pinterest and decided to look at my recipe board for some inspiration for lunch. Turns out Princess put her foot down and decided on spaghetti bolognaise but I decided to make some yummy bread anyway as I was in the mood to do something different. We used this recipe from the super amazing blog, Lauren’s Latest for Hasselback cheesy garlic bread. I’ve been toying with the idea of baking bread at home for some time as my mum used to do it with me and I figured it only fair to pass the tradition down to Princess.

We didn’t have a lovely Kitchen Aid stand mixer to knead the dough in (yes that’s a blatant hint to friends and family) but we did have plenty of enthusiasm and good old fashioned elbow grease! Princess basically did everything herself but I did take over with the kneading for a little bit so she could catch her breath!

We saved some bread without the cheese or garlic butter and gave it to the grandparents who were very impressed and asked if we could bake some more for them over the weekend! Princess was very chuffed with the compliment, as was I!! I think it may be a great weekend tradition in the making though I’ll have to find healthier recipes, maybe break out the spelt flour and seeds next time?

You should defo give it a try, it was really simple and kept missy entertained for ages! She was even interested in watching the dough rise!

That looks amazingly yummy! I’m dreadful with bread (how hard is it to kill yeast) but may have to give this a try.

And yes, you NEED a KitchenAid stand mixer.

    In a FABULOUS color.

haha have yet to manage to kill the yeast! I think you should do fine with this bread, it was super easy and tastes divine, so win win really.
Oooh but what colour would I buy… I’m in love with the candy apple red but the stainless steel model is probs more easy to accessorise.. decisions decisions..

We do baking a lot with the Brownies on Pack Holiday – they adore yeast recipes and can often be found peeking under tea towels to ‘watch it growing’ I love it myself though – so much fun, and a great stress reliever with all that kneading

I wish Princess had let me do a bit more of the kneading! Totally agree with you Penelope, there is something really relaxing about it.
Aww love that you’re a brownie leader. Very cool!
