I love you. I love you more than I have loved anything in my entire life and although you are too young to understand this at the moment, I hope that one day when you are bigger you will read these words and understand the reason I do things, things that at the moment, probably make you feel like I’m your worse enemy.
I love that you are slightly cocky and a bit of a chancer. It means you have character and I don’t have to be fearful of you not speaking your mind. That being said. I am your mother. What I say goes, if I tell you it’s time for bed, replying that you need “nine more minutes mummy, ok” then turning you head is neither endearing or funny.
I know you are an age where you are constantly pushing boundaries, trying out new phrases and attitudes that you have seen on other kids. I get that. But when mummy tells you that we don’t say ‘you know” at the end of every sentance, or that saying “you’re making me bored” is rude, that doesn’t mean you should say it more, it means QUIT IT!
Mummy needs you to listen to her, I say and do things because I love you. I want you to get a good nights sleep so you wake up refreshed and energised, ready for a weekend full of baking, drawing, parks and new experiences, or a weekday full of learning new things. I don’t do it because I am mean or tired myself, though yes at times I AM tired too!
When you are older, I hope you read this and understand why I let you cry at times, it is because I am raising you to be a little too spoilt. I feel guilty for working full time and not seeing you as much as I’d like.
So I give in.
I buy you too much and I say yes too often.
Tonight I had to say no, that enough was enough and you HAD to go to bed. This was not out of frustration but necessity. There are some rules in life that must be followed, bedtime is one of them!
So Princess, one last time. You mean the world to me and I hope when you read this, you understand that! I am still your best friend and you are mine. Hopefully in the morning we will share a cuddle and the world will be good!
